American living in Cambodia

American living in Cambodia?
I wanted some information on if it is safe for an american to live in Cambodia for no more than a month. I have always been hesitant because of the child sex trade there, and many books and guides have made it sound EVERY SINGLE CHILD IN CAMBODIA is either a prostitute, digging through a garbage dump or working in a factory. I know the sad reality of poverty, but besides what the Khmer Rouge did to Cambodia, is it all around a pleasent country?

At first I thought, "Oh god another pedophile...." But anyway uhh, you are generally safe. If you are there for vacation just stick to the tourist stuff like backpacking or sightseeing.

Research the country. Then choose the safest place to resident. Good luck.

Cambodia is a risky place. I am American and my wife is Taiwanese. We went there last summer. We were followed by groups of beggars everywhere we went. My wife got her camera snatched out of her hands right in front of a police check point. The police ran past the thieves to ask us for money to get it back. Then they tried to make us pay them for a police report which we didn't want. I had to call my hotel to ask them what to do. The hotel said to smile and say no then walk away. Cambodia is a dive. Good luck. Regards,

Cambodia is a great place to visit, the people are great, obviously the books you have been reading are absolute rubbish, is there poverty yes..plenty of it..but Cambodia is developing at a rapid rate. As with all countries there are places to go and places to stay out of...just about every country in the world is dangerous to a certain degree..lets face as an American you are living in one of the most violent nations in the world. As with travelling anywhere keep your wits about you and you will be fine
