Americans: Have you ever lived in the ghetto

Americans: Have you ever lived in the ghetto?
How was your experience? I thought i once lived in the ghetto until...I heard my friends tell me stories of when they lived in Laos or Cambodia or Brazil. Not being able to play outside with out a landmine killing one of their friends right in front of their eyes, living in a hut (laos). Having to quite their professional jobs and become slaves for the khmer rouge living only on parcels of rice aday in a hut watching children watching children until their parent returned from the fields (cambodia). Living in the Barrios where murders hardly ever get solved or even investigated, digging through trash to find food, family makes $10 usa dollars a month(brazil). So i ask you Americans again have you ever lived in the ghetto? superior ugh, smh

I never lived in a ghetto but there was a time when I had to stay with my aunt and uncle, who lived in a ghetto. We only spent about 2 months there because we were waiting for our house to finish being under construction. We purchased a house in a gated conmunity that was currently under construction but we could not have moved in yet because the homes were not finished. The reason why we stayed at our aunts/uncles house was because my parents did not want to renew our rent lease which would have made us be required to pay rent in the apartment for another year, which is a waste of money because we were moving out soon, anyways. (This was about 10 years ago.) I never really associated with the ghetto kids in that neighborhood much, so I spent that summer just watching TV pretty much. I did go back up to my old neighborhood and spent some time with old friends but I never associated with the ghetto kids.

No. I was born in 1989 to a black father and white mother. From 1990 onwards, my father beat my father, and she had to leave one day with me when he was at work, to escape. She had to work two jobs to support us, and did it all on her own. Black = scum.

does black=scum, factor out to you=1/2scum? A ghetto by defintion is a community harboring one distinct group of people; with the distinction usually being race...before WW2, jews were known to live in gated communities known as Ghettos. there are plenty of Ghettos in the US, and i've lived in a ouple of them..streets where buildings were so beat up, they would collapse, like dinosaurs, in broad daylight, sometimes with people in them..dirt and filth everywhere, and locals either selling drugs, doing drugs, are dying from drugs... gun violence was a daily occurence, and went pretty much ignored.,with the police acting out a policy of containment; as long as they're just killing each other, look the other way..anyone private vehicles venturing out of the invisible boundaries were usually stopped and searched , and usually seized for not being properly licensed or registered.... those who went to the free public schools didn't stay; young females were usually pregnant as soon as their bodies developed the capacity to bear children, their means of income was basically welfare and subsidies...there was a time when the state was paying young women more money if they had a child, so the girls used that as an incentive to get pregnant...soon after, they curtailed that program, leaving the young mothers in the lurch, and forcing them to seek gainful employment somewhere, anywhere, with 2and 3yr old offspring in tow. it would seem that i'm describing the plight of blacks, yet most of these people that i lived around, here in the US, were white and hispanic. and they weren't 1st generation americans- they had been living like that for some time...there were a fair number of blacks among them, though, and this highlighted the "ghetto' element you speak of.

not American but would like to answer I grew up here maybe not ghetto by your definition but it is a ghetto well a British one lol Nightingale estate http://www.flickr.com/photos/chrisdb1/3401387984/sizes/o/ I was born and raised in the London borogh of Hackney I lived on Nightingale esate from birth till i was 8 years old then I moved a few blocks to Clapton where I live till this day. Growing up 8 people where shot dead on my road when I was 10. I know alot about the streets and I have done some stuff I aint proud of. I never thought things would get as bad as they did in 2007 in two years I lost 4 friends to murder my brother lost 2 I know now also know killers people I grew up with never would of suspected it. Its not really poverty here but a really evil culture sucking in all the children. Alot of my friends are currently in jail alot of us have been stabbed before that not even uncommon anymore my lil bro had his face slashed up and his friends are on the sex offenders list for rape they are only 13 rape is also common and does not get reported through intimidation. I can go outside right now and talk to a murder as he aint even been caught yet he simply laughs about what he did and hes only 15. I can go on but nothing good I can say about my area other than the olympics are coming right here in 3 years so they are going to get rid of us by raising up the house prices. tony Blair use to live not far from me its funny how posh and poor parts are put together in London. I got alot to say but cant be asked to say it all... Me I dont hate ghetto people if anything I might even be one but I aint ignorant always been smart I just know circumstances can lead to certain things I cant blame most these kids in my area if we grew up surrounded by criminals while we played out of course they will be the role models not the doctors, lawyers etc because can you see them in your area 24-7 no because they are working or at home or to make it even better would they be living in our area in the first place hell no. So I like how I know about astronomy and the streets yet was only in school till the age of 12 aint I great. My road when i was younger http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2001/apr/22/tonythompson.theobserver1 The friends I lost and I know most of their killers who simply laughed about their crime Danielle Johnson, i still dont understand how her man could do what he done to her then joke about it after. my generation is fuked since I heard what happened to her. http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-23452715-details/We+are+still+living+in+fear,+says+mother+of+murdered+model+Danielle/article.do Etem Celebi what happened to him is common just that he didnt make it he use to play on the same football team as me. http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23421494-details/Teenage+friend+of+X+Factor+star+Leona+Lewis+shot+dead+%27for+living+on+rival+estate%27/article.do Devoe Roach i was in the same school year as him, i hear he was killed beacuse he was looking at his would be killers dog! http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-23467020-details/Two+teenagers+stabbed+to+death+in+seven+hours/article.do Steven Bigby, this guy I know he probably deserved it as he was no angel I knew how he was like if you read he and other had raped a disabled girl prior to this though no connection. http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-23484523-details/Man+killed+in+Oxford+St+was+on+bail+for+horrific+acid+rape/article.do
