What should I know about living in Cambodia

What should I know about living in Cambodia?
I'm in Thailand now, familiar mostly with Chiang Mai and BKK. What is LOW cost of living, with respect to lodging-like guest house in or out of the capital? I want to train Khmer boxing, and will go between Thailand and Cambodia, and possibly Myanmar. I've found lodging in Thailand everywhere between 2 and 3k baht, 60-100$. What is the low end there in Cambodia?

depending on where you are in Cambodia the prices vary from similar to Thailand to a little higher. I have found very inexpensive lodging in Phonm Phen and prices to be somewhat higher in Siem Reap. Probably because of the popularity of Angkor Wat. Remember everything, and I mean everything is for sale in Cambodia. Most of the serious grifters in the world end up there at some point in time so hold tight to your wallet. Keep a small amount of local currency in one pocket and the bulk of your pocket money in the other. If stopped by one of the three police agency's pull out the small denomination cash when they want the bribe and you might even be able to argue them down a little. If you pull out the big bucks its gone. I have a friend who takes a book everywhere he goes. If he gets stopped by the cops he just sits down and pulls out the book and starts reading. waits them out! he usually gets off Scot free. Don't ever run or try to dodge the military police. they would just as soon shoot you as look at you. You are safer to hire a driver than renting a bike. Just trust me on this. its worth it. I have more if you need it and check out this site for some inside expat info. www.asia-expatsforum.com/phpBB2/cambodia-links.php -

Oh. Wow. I'm not sure if you could have chosen any two more *different* countries in the world! Cambodia is a wet, jungled Third World country (at best). And small. Australia is its own continent, definitely part of the Western World (obviously as a cultural term, not a geographic term), most of it as the most inhospitable hell-hole on the globe. Cambodia is very ethnically isolated across its geographic provinces, Australia does have its own sub-cultures, but with the obvious exception of the Aborigines, it's basically a single culture. Ooh! Both of their governments have an element of constitutional monarchy. That's one! But unfortunately they're very different, basically entirely different in all but name. But at least it's a technicality. They do both have rainforest, though Australia's forests are confined to small areas. They both have coastlines... both populations have odd English accents? I always hate to reference Wikipedia, for a variety of reasons, but it is an easy read. I've crawled all over, and I really can't find anything similar. Perhaps you should go for *differences* between the two. That makes much more sense.

HI, is there anyone who would like to live in Cambodia, invest a small sum in a farm project and help the poor

HI, is there anyone who would like to live in Cambodia, invest a small sum in a farm project and help the poor?
I live in Sihanuke Ville, Cambodia. We have a saying here: In every flight to Phnom Phen sits a guy who wants to lose a million bucks! Big dreams of a boat and beach bar, having a partner and so just halve the work and the staff is doing the most anyway, sitting on the beach all day and slurping them sweet cocktails… - and after one year and the first low season they all try to sell or just leave the place and cut their losses! Is there anyone out there who wants to invest about 6000 - 10.000US$ in a project that promises a good return on the money and helps the locals as well? We’re not going to make millions with my ideas but a comfortable living. If you are interested to help people, spend some time in Cambodia and make some money after a while please write me. It would be even more interesting if you’re a single female between age 22 and 32 since I happen to be a single… :)

no one is going to want to do this.

I'm out of your age range and also don't fancy Western men (no offence if you're one), but if you can throw in a comely Cambodian man of the same age range, I may consider. ;)

are you a swindler?
