How has deporting a few hundred petty criminals to Cambodia made America safer

How has deporting a few hundred petty criminals to Cambodia made America safer?
"Some of the Cambodian-Americans now living in Phnom Penh... have been deported for aggravated felonies as minor as shoplifting and public urination. The law is also retroactive, meaning many had already finished their prison sentences and started rebuilding their lives in the U.S. before finding out that they would be deported..." http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1924835,00.html

The crimes that you mentioned are not aggravated felonies, so I don't believe you.

That's just what we need more of in the USA! More shoplifters and people who pee in the streets!

Uh I'm sorry, is there a reason we need these people here? I don't know who said this made us 'safer'. I mean am I any safer because these people are gone? Probably not. But is our society a little better without these criminals here? Yeah, it is. I'm sure some of them did rebuild their lives, but most criminals return to crime (something the article ignores, surprise surprise). I wouldn't lose any sleep over these people being gone, and I would question the sanity of anyone who would.
